How to make DIY string art!

Craft blogger Mandy Beyeler wanted to create something with a "bright and fun vibe" that matched her daughter's personality: something to be used as part of the new decor for the little girl's room. As evidenced by her Sugar Bee Crafts website, Mandy is a whiz at putting together colorful crafts.
Therefore, she had the perfect idea for this particular project: string art, with bright colors and a heart-shaped middle. To follow along with Mandy and create this pretty piece, first gather your supplies: a painted board, small nails, colored string, a heart template, a drill, and a hammer.

Next, get the nails into position -- Mandy claims that drilling the holes first is the "secret to making string art easy." After drilling a shallow hole, it's simple to use the hammer to tap the nails in the rest of the way.
Next, weave the colored string around the nails in a sunburst pattern, changing colors whenever you like. Mandy's detailed instructions can be found at Sugar Bee Crafts.
It's amazing how much detail can be conveyed in string art, and the wide variety of decorating styles it can accommodate. For example, nature patterns on rustic wood has a whole different feel than Mandy's bright heart on white wood.
Express your love for a place by mapping it out in string art -- with a heart in the middle, of course.
Even words can be laid out in string. Put your personal mantra onto the wall for everyone to see!
